In Search of IT!

“All my life I have tried to do what is right; you know, ‘play by the rules and be honest in my dealings with my fellow man.’ They said, ‘Get an education’; so I attempted to get an education, and boy, have I ever gotten an education. Then it was ‘Start at the bottom and work your way to the top’, followed by ‘Be a team player’, so I started at the bottom and tried to be a team player. What an experience! I feel like I was nothing but a stepstool that allowed my teammates the ability to reach the bottom rung on the ladder of success. ‘Just keep your eye on the target’ they said, but with all the congestion at the bottom of the ladder, it’s difficult to even see the target, and then when you can, it seems that they keep moving the target! So, what’s the point? Then there is my favorite ‘Never give up.’ Right. It’s becoming so cutthroat out there that you don’t know who to trust anymore. Look around at those who are receiving recognition and promotions. Does it appear to you that we’ve reached the point at which we have to abandon all honest principles in order to succeed? Look at our leaders. Not a day goes by that you don’t hear of some new scandal. Bribery and corruption: those seem to be the rules of success. You know the Golden Rule, ‘He who has the gold, rules.’ Is this somebody’s idea of a sick, sadistic joke? Does this mean that I have to become like that in order to succeed? ‘Live a good life, Be an example, Love will conquer all.’ Now there’s worthwhile counsel for you. I’ve tried to keep the commandments, fulfill my family, church and community assignments and obligations. So where has it gotten me? Now, working 16 hours a day, my business is in ruins, I’m broke, my family and home life is in despair. I don’t seem to get any respect or appreciation for anything that I’m doing. I feel like such a failure. I continually look for guidance and direction and I’m to the point that I feel that even God has forsaken me! I just don’t get it!”
